Natural Building Workshop

June 17th-23rd

On off grid alpaca farm & permaculture homestead!

Co-organized by Chris Martinez and Dave & Nicole Wiegman (see bio's below)

In this workshop you will be learning through hands-on application as well as discussion of all course content.

Building Earthen Walls from both Straw Bale & Cob Construction! 

Learn how to test soil to determine clay content.

Get an understanding of the difference between Insulation vs Thermal Mass.

Natural Building Foundations & Drainage! Boulder & Earthbags.

Earthen Plaster, fine tune your connection to clay!

PLUS Earthbag retaining walls in a freshly dug root celler!

Tuition covers earthen wall workshop 

w/ experienced builders, campsite 

& 3 meals a day for 

6 nights/7 days on  beautiful 47 acre remote farm!

Includes opening circle, alpaca farm tour & felt studio tour!

Organizers Bio's:

Chris Martinez from the Los Angeles Permaculture Community.

 Has 15 years experience as a permaculture designer & natural builder with an emphasis on urban design & eco system integration for diverse & unique spaces. He has co-led the Los Angeles Permaculture Convergence 2 years in a row. He is an artist w/ a wide range of skills including natural building, food forest design, fiber arts, welding & more. Chris is passionate about place making, botany & primitive skills. He’s excited to be bringing his magic to Arizona & co-organizing an off grid building community!”

Nicole Wiegman, co-founder of Starflower Eco Farm & Prema Alpacas.

Has lived off grid for 3 years. She’s a Permaculture Designer, Felt Maker, Hand Spinner,  Evolutionary Astrologer & a Yogini. She has been organizing community for 10 years. Leading retreats, workshops, seasonal celebrations & women’s circles.

Nicole embodies earth based spirituality through the application of permaculture design. She hand processes all their fiber sustainably.

She manages the mamas & all the babies & juveniles on the farm. She is passionate about ancient symbols & functional art.“

Dave Wiegman, co-founder of Starflower Eco Farm & Prema Alpacas. 

With 20 years experience as a commercial landscape contractor & a background in carpentry, Dave makes it all happen! From building projects to off grid systems! His skill set is diverse & ever growing. Since living off grid for the past 4 years, Dave has installed solar energy systems, rooftop rainwater harvesting & a pressurized indoor water system for running water! He strategically makes all breeding choices and manages alpaca sales & mentoring of new clients. He is passionate about living off the  grid & outside of societal systems!“

Day 1

Snack upon arrival:

Homemade sourdough crackers with cheese,  fresh fruit & veggies

Dinner:

Carne asada tacos with fresh onion & cilantro on local made corn tortillas side of Mexican rice & homemade refried beans

Day 2

Breakfast:

Blueberry protein pancakes, with hand harvested maple syrup & sausage

Lunch:

White rice with chicken curry with side of naan & homemade hummus &  raw veggies

Dinner:

Homemade spaghetti noodles / red sauce & beef, side of broccolini & roasted carrots

Day 3

Breakfast:

Classic breakfast, cheesy scrambled eggs, bacon, sourdough toast, & roasted potatoes

Lunch:

Chickpea potato soup w/ side of naan & hummus & raw veggies

Dinner:

Homemade Pizza cheese, pepperoni, veggies

Day 4

Breakfast:

Classic breakfast, scrambled eggs, sourdough toast, potatoes, maple sausage

Lunch:

Sandwiches, sourdough bread, ham & cheese

Dinner:

Steak, mashed potatoes, green beans and roasted carrots

Day 5

Breakfast:

Breakfast bagels w/ egg, cheese & bacon, w/ side of roasted potatoes

Lunch:

Charcuterie lunch, cold meats & cheeses, raw fruits and veggies and dips

Dinner:

Burritos with homemade refried beans, steak, Mexican rice, cheese, tomato, avocado & onion, side of chips and guac

Day 6

Breakfast:

Oatmeal & yogurt bar, organic yogurt with fresh berries, nuts, seeds, peanut butter

Lunch:

White rice w/ teriyaki chicken stir fry & veggies

Dinner:

Grass fed Burgers w/  homemade fries

Day 7

Breakfast:

Breakfast burritos w/ egg, cheese, bacon & potato

Lunch:

Ham and cheese sandwiches on sourdough bread side of raw veggies and dips & fruit
