We live in a world that is transactional. Relating through what we consume.
But what if we related through what we create instead - how different would our world look?
This retreat is an opportunity  to choose
Creativity over Consumerism.
Resilience over Dependence.
And Self Expression over Conformity.
By merging ancient and modern through the Sacred Art of Felting you will shape shift a Wild Pile of Alpaca Fleece into a Wild Woman's Vest. A statement piece that will keep your core warm and connect you to Nature's Resources.
The Water we use for felting will be collected from our Rain harvesting tanks. Waste Water created through the process will be given to the Garden or Compost pile to grow Soil. And any Waste Fleece will be given to the Garden as mulch or you can take it home to use in your own Garden. As a community we will create a closed loop by weaving our art, the animals & the Garden as one intertwined ecosystem. Zero waste, zero energy leaked...
What is Felting?
Felt is the very first fabric humans created. It is when you take natural fibers and tangle them up through heat, water & friction creating one unwoven piece of fabric that you would never know was a pile of fleece beforehand. Throughout the globe there are many origin stories for felt - from Solomon to Noah to the ancient matri-civilization of Catal Huyuk - felt has played a vital role in sustainable natural textiles to clothe humanity and protect us from the elements AND make art. In fact - it was common practice when visiting royalty to bring felt as a gift. It wasn't until the industrial revolution that the art of felting was nearly erased due to mass amounts of factory felt being produced and it continues to this day (now including synthetic fibers).
At this retreat you will learn basic felting techniques that can be applied to countless projects. You will be exposed to permaculture & off grid remote living.
This is a camping experience - prepping should be part of the fun.
Packing list will be emailed upon signing up. And coordinates & detailed driving instructions will come at a later date. We are located on Havasupai Land in Northern AZ near Seligman.
